Fishing Success!Sunday, July 06, 2008, 2:50 PM
Went on the annual Alaskan fishing vacation last month, and finally got a King Salmon. I caught this from the shore of the Anchor River using a fly rod. The fishing guide's scale didn't go over 25 lbs, so we had to estimate this one at slightly over that. That's an unusually large fish for this river, but not the largest King I've seen. (One of the guys last year caught one on the Kenai that was 74 lbs!) IceSunday, January 14, 2007, 9:04 AMWe're having a ice storm here. The following shots were taken about 24h ago, but they are predicting more ice today. My poor trees! The birch trees are so bent over that their tops are nearly on the ground. Mmmmm... pulled pork!Sunday, November 12, 2006, 11:33 AM
I ran my first real cook in my new smoker yesterday. I smoked 3 pork roasts and several halibut filets. I had a little trouble with temperatures until I realized that my temperature probe was poorly placed and the temp I was reading was much higher than the actual temperature where the meat was. Here's a picture of one of the roasts after pulling, and a picture of the halibut filets. I used a different seasoning on each filet for variety. CancunFriday, November 03, 2006, 11:41 AMI'm just finishing a 1-week trip to Cancun for an ECS conference. The conference was great, with lots of good talks. Unfortunately, I haven't had much time to look around or enjoy the activities. I suppose it hasn't been too much of a loss, however, since the weather has been pretty cloudy and rainy anyway. I walked around for a bit this morning, however, and managed to get a picture of one of the locals. ![]() It's August already?!Saturday, August 05, 2006, 3:35 PMI haven't got much news, but here are some pics. The first two are from my fishing trip to Alaska. I didn't catch a salmon, so I didn't get my picture taken. The last pic is of my combination glycol chiller & beer storage. It's a little empty right now, but it's busy maintaining the temperature of a batch of Helles and a batch of Oktoberfest. When they're done they'll go in there. |
